Farm Information

Founded in 1756 and shaped by waves of Corsican immigration in the 1800s, Yauco quickly became the epicenter of Puerto Rican coffee production  . The mountainous terrain—stretching from 2,400 to over 4,000 feet above sea level—is perfect for high-quality Arabica coffee cultivation

By the 1860s, Corsican settlers controlled seven out of ten plantations in Yauco, pioneering innovations like mechanical de-husking and exporting beans to Europe  . This legacy of excellence continues to define premium micro-lots.

"Oro De Santurce" originates from small, family-run plots nestled in Yauco’s lush valleys. The terroir combines

  • Elevation (~2,600–3,000 ft) ensuring slow cherry maturation for deep, nuanced flavor

  • Climate moderated by cloud cover and afternoon mist, offering gentle growing conditions

  • Soil rich in organic matter, supporting healthy Arabica Bourbon, Typica, Pacas, and Catimor varieties.

Cultivation is sustainable, shade trees regulate microclimates, organic methods nourish the earth, and selective hand-picking ensures only ripe cherries make it into the lot.

Expect a brew that’s

  • Aromatic: Crisp citrus, tropical fruit, light floral tones.

  • Flavorful: Balanced acidity melds with sweet apple, stone fruit, and a touch of cocoa.

  • Body & Finish: Clean, light–medium body, lingering sweetness with delicate spice on the finish.

Yauco thrives on a rich tapestry of coffee culture

  • Coffee Festival: Celebrated annually in February, uniting farmers, artisans, and music in honor of the harvest  .

  • Corsican Heritage: Many producers maintain family-run farms, passing down age-old traditions and regional pride ().

  • Revival: Specialty coffee has seen a resurgence, bringing micro-lots like Oro De Santurce into global spotlight—even commanding premium recognition.
